ZANZIBAR - THE SPICE ISLAND & PEMBA.
Zanzibar is best known as the 'spice island' and was the centre for the slave trade in East Africa.
It is popular for its enormous rewarding East Coast beaches and the old Stone town Arab buildings with narrow streets,
which are unique in all of Tanzania. The cluster of winding streets lined with white-washed coral houses, bazaars, mosques,
fortresses, two former sultan's palaces, two huge cathedrals and faded colonial mansions all vividly still evoke the
islands' long history. This island on Tanzania's North coast has lured travelers for centuries, and it was the influence
of the Shirazi Persians and the Omani Arabs that haslingered mostly on the island.
Zanzibar is also known as the spice island and the largest producer of cloves where you will see varieties of spices
and fruit plantations.
The old slave market and ruins are also attractive to many tourists.
We do organise Spice Tours, Jozani Forest Reserve Tours(centrally located on the island, well-forested, nice for a walk,
an ideal place for a day trip, and is the only remaining sanctuary for the Red Colobus Monkey), Zanzibar Stone Town Tours,
Zanzibar Prison Island Tours, Dolphin Tours and Dhow Cruises. MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK.
The park is situated about 216 km from Dar es Salaam along the Dar es Salaam - Zambia highway.
It was established in 1964. Mikumi National Park borders with Africa's largest Game Reserve, the 'Selous' and is the third
largest National Park after Serengeti and Ruaha National Parks and covers an area of 3230 sq km. The park has many
attractions and the plains surrounding River Mkata, which are rich in Flora and fauna, are by themselves wonderful scenario.
The common animals found in the park include zebra, buffalos, elephants, hippos, lions, and the impalas. |
